IGA, and Supa IGA stores will appear throughout Western Australia in May, when existing Action, Dewsons and most Supa Valu stores become part of the alliance.
Their names will change, but store ownership, staff and management will remain the same.
Local store owners and operators will retain their independence and are encouraged to follow the IGA principles which have made the banner one of the fastest growing in Australia. The IGA brand will bring a strong emphasis on local produce, community involvement, friendly service, value, credibility and integrity.
Independently owned supermarkets will now bond together in Western Australia and join the IGA organisation of Independent grocers in four other States to form an even more powerful buying group, big enough to take on the major chains with the resources they need to remain local independent businesses.
By being part of the IGA family, the independent stores will be able to buy groceries at the most competitive prices and pass on those savings to their consumers. Storeowners also receive Marketing and business programmes and guidance , fresh food specialist advice and IT support.
IGA, will provide a strong support system that will build the strength of independent supermarket operators and, will also, provide customers with a cost-effective shopping alternative.
Independent retailers are planning a series of local opening celebrations across WA next month to mark the occasion.
